Smithsonian Carousel ●

The Carousel at the Smithsonian Castle in DC. I have no childhood memories of carousels, i don’t think I’ve ever been on one. They do make me think of the Hollies song “Carousel” and also a Twilight Zone episode where a man goes on a nostalgic trip back to his hometown and sees himself as a boy riding the carousel in the town square.

One of the more interesting aspects of painting in very public places is that I am often regarded like a street performer or another part of the tourism experience. I enjoy these encounters and chatting with people often provides the break I need while paintings dry between layers of washes.
