The Ochre City

Last year I visited the small Italian village my grandparents emigrated from in the last century. The narrow medieval lanes of the village were part of my experience growing up, as faded black and white pictures that hung in our house in America. It seemed like a mythical rather than actual place, seeing it in person last year was overwhelming and inspiring. This painting represents my first view of the approach, reminiscent of the moment in the Wizard of Oz, when Dorothy and the trio first see the legendary Emerald City shimmering in the distance.
