Phoenix, Smoke Rising

Painted during the Ellicott City Plein Air Festival 2019.

Ellicott City sits in the dramatic deep valleys of several rivers and streams. But back to back catastrophic floods in the past few years have left the future of this unique historical mill town in doubt. I was very happy to see many businesses opening and old ones re-opening, and to see smoke rising from the vents of the grill at the aptly named Phoenix Emporium.
